FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Inflatable seals & bladders are used in many industries and applications, including: Materials Handling / Robotics; Nuclear Power; Meatpacking / Smokehouse Door Seals; Pharmaceutical / Medical; Wineries; Pulp & Paper; Clamping Devices; Chemical Processing; Aerospace; Sterilizers; Flood Barriers, etc.

  • Depending on the specific application, inflatable seals can be more effective when addressing irregular or misaligned seal mating surfaces. They require less force to allow for optimum sealing in joining two components together.

  • Inflatable sealing products require compressd air to operate. Seals inflate in Radially-in, Radially-out and Axial modes.

  • Minimum order quantities are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. We must purchase a minimum amount of elastomeric raw material for production processing ; we check our inventory and use existing material whenever possible or combine with other orders that are scheduled to run.

  • EPDM is the most commonly used elastomeric material but a host of engineered materials are readily available, incluing Butyl, Neoprene, Nitrile; Fluroelastomers such as Viton; Silicone, etc.

  • A wide variety of cross sections are available from Weiler Technologies, including : Footed, Footless, Channel, etc. Weiler’s Application Engineers will work with you to develop custom profiles per application requirements.

  • Weiler has in-house tooling capabilities for molds; we produce fully-molded corners and full material fabrication. Weiler has a Cold Room used for elastomer storage to prolong product life.

  • A set-up charge is applied, depending on tooling and material needed. Weiler normally furnishes a First Article sample for testing. Due to the custom nature of our business, charges vary.

  • Average lead times for prototype / first article are 4-6 weeks, if tooling is involved. Average production time after sample approval is 2-3 weeks ARO.

  • Product life is contingent upon many factors, including environment, cycles, pressure, etc. Weiler cannot predict seal life under all the varying conditions of operation. Accellerated life testing may be performed by customer to determine expected life, but must be conducted in dynamic application.

  • Weiler maintains all tooling and will replace as needed.
